Everyone wants to find the best deal on credit cards. It doesn't matter if you're a star credit pupil or a bad credit reject, you want the best card with the best perks at the best rate. But where can you go to find the cards that dreams are made of? How do you dig through the huge haystack to find the few precious needles that remain? Here are a few tips to help point you in the right direction.

The Internet

The Internet has truly become a credit card mecca. From those with perfect credit to those with serious credit woes, there's a card application on the Web to match everyone's needs. Everyone knows that the Web is the best place to go for a variety of consumer deals. Credit cards are no exception.

Of course, you have to be careful which credit card websites you apply with. You don't want to hand your personal information out to just anyone. When applying for a credit card online, make sure its with a company you can trust and make sure the site is legit.

Your Local Credit Union

Credit unions are known for offering members great rates and promotions. You might want to consider giving yours a call to find the best deal on credit cards in your area. While a local credit union can't always beat the deals found on the Web, they can sometimes turn up unexpected treasures.

Clubs and Organizations

Sometimes your affiliations with clubs and organizations can get you the best deal on credit cards. For example, Mensa members can get a members-only credit card with special perks and benefits. Those who support the ASPCA can get a card tailored to their interests and needs. There are hundreds of organization-specific cards on the market. See if the clubs and organizations you belong to have anything to offer.

Look In Your Wallet

Not happy with the credit card you have? Call the company and tell them. It's not uncommon for credit card companies to offer special deals and incentives to retain good customers. They might drop your rate or give you added perks that make the card in your wallet the best one in town.

Just remember, research is everything. The best deal today becomes obsolete tomorrow as credit card companies change their offerings and promotions. As boring as it may sound, the best deal on credit cards is often found with a little old-fashioned legwork and research into what the market currently has to offer.
